Cheryl Kang Prout, Esq.

Attorney & Mediator | Partner & Founder

Cheryl has always been passionate about learning how people connect and resolve conflict.  This passion led her to research in the field of social psychology while at the University of California Berkeley, where she earned the SWAN Undergraduate Psychology Research Scholarship, the James and Catherine Koshland Family Scholarship and graduated with honors with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.  She then went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from the University of California Hastings College of the Law, where she was the Dean’s Scholarship recipient.

Cheryl completed her Divorce Mediation Certification at Orange County Human Relations and is qualified to mediate cases at the California courts under the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act.

Before founding Cordial Family Lawyers, LLP, Cheryl worked at Holland & Knight, LLP, an international law firm, where she worked on international business transactions. She then served as General Counsel at XG Communications, LLC, a telecommunications start-up company. She has world-class experience negotiating large business deals, making her detailed, business-savvy work a boon for family clients with business interests, high incomes, and large estates.

Cheryl leads an active pro bono practice for clients in need. She was recipient of the Inaugural Pro Bono Advisory Council Volunteer Award at Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

Cheryl served as the President of the Orange County Korean American Bar Association in 2020-2021. She served as the organization’s President-Elect in 2019-2020 and Secretary in 2016-2017. Cheryl is also an active member of the Orange County Bar Association.

Cheryl also studied and worked in South Korea, where she lived for eight years, and is fluent in both spoken and written Korean. She attends Yorba Linda Friend’s Church with her husband and two children.  She enjoys traveling, theater, and spending time with her family.
